David G. Barnes, JD
Chairman, President & CEO

Mr. Barnes, a licensed attorney and registered investment advisor representative (Series 65), leads the HFW team in service to their institutional and individual clients. He became an HFW board director in 1987, was appointed Vice Chairman in 1989, became Chairman of the Board in 2002 and was elected President and CEO in 2013.

Prior to joining HFW, Mr. Barnes held a variety of managerial and executive positions in the manufacturing and healthcare industries. He is a member of the State Bar of Michigan, the Business Law Section of the State Bar of Michigan and The Bond Club of Detroit.

Donald B. Jeffery, Jr., CFA
Senior Vice President

Mr. Jeffery joined HFW in 1989 and was elected Vice President of HFW in 1992. He was elected Senior Vice President effective February 1, 2014. As a senior investment advisor and community bank portfolio manager, he serves a broad array of community bank investment, individual and corporate clients. He also counsels community bank clients on asset-liability management, interest rate risk management and liquidity risk management. Mr. Jeffery has frequently served as liaison between banking regulators and community banks to assist clients in solving regulatory and investment challenges.

Prior to joining HFW, Mr. Jeffery spent a decade in the community banking industry, where he developed extensive expertise in business development, investments, lending, and bank operations. Mr. Jeffery is a frequent speaker and writer to industry trade associations, shareholder meetings and investment seminars. He has been a faculty member of the Perry School of Banking at Central Michigan University and is past President of the Michigan Bankers Association’s Michigan Traveling Circus. Mr. Jeffery earned the Charter Financial Analyst (CFA) designation in 1994 and is a member of CFA Institute as well as the CFA Society of Detroit.

Rebecca L. Gersonde
Vice President

Ms. Gersonde was promoted to Chief Compliance Officer in 2006. She was elected Vice President effective February 1, 2014. She joined HFW as Investment Advisor in 1999, and currently serves numerous bank, credit union, foundation and individual clients.

Prior to joining HFW, Ms. Gersonde served as a First Vice President and Associate Manager of the Municipal Desk with First Chicago/NBD where she specialized in Fixed Income Asset Management. Ms. Gersonde developed expertise in the management of individual and institutional investment portfolios and the direct investment practices of managing commingled and mutual funds for taxable and tax-exempt accounts from 1981 – 1999.

Ms. Gersonde currently serves as a Trustee to the Michigan Municipal Advisory Council. She is also a member of The Bond Club of Detroit.

Kenneth B. Jeffery
Vice President

Mr. Jeffery has served as investment and strategic advisor to community banks and credit unions since he joined Heber Fuger Wendin (“HFW”) in 1995. He was elected Vice President effective February 1, 2014. Prior to joining HFW, he headed his own management consulting company specializing in change management, strategic planning, business analysis, communication and customer service for a broad range of retail and service companies. Mr. Jeffery also held diverse executive and managerial positions in the Oil and Retail Sales Industries, including Director of Learning Development & Consultant to Amoco Oil Company.

Mr. Jeffery is also a curriculum developer and classroom instructor in investments, marketing, strategy, organizational behavior and customer focus. He is a member of the Michigan Bankers Association’s Michigan Traveling Circus.

John E. Oberdick
Vice President

Mr. Oberdick began working with Heber Fuger Wendin as Vice President on June 1, 2016. With over 30 years of investment advisory experience, he has been Senior Vice President at Ann Arbor Bancorp and head of Ann Arbor State Advisors serving wealth management clients. Prior to that position he managed his own investment advisory firm, Personal Financial Care, Inc. for eight years. Earlier he was Senior Vice President for Key Bank and Specialized Investment Advisor for Bank One Investment Advisors.

Heidi B. Barnes

Treasurer/Systems Manager

Ms. Barnes was promoted to Treasurer and Systems Manager for Heber Fuger Wendin in 1995. She joined HFW as Analyst and Systems Manager in 1992 after serving several years with Electronic Data Systems, where she coordinated the development of an internal financial forecasting system. She continues to manage the computer systems for Heber Fuger Wendin and is also responsible for all corporate financial functions.

Raquel S. Edwards
Portfolio Accounting Manager

Ms. Edwards was promoted to Portfolio Accounting Manager in 1998. An expert in the use of TPG (The Portfolio Genius) accounting software, Ms. Edwards now oversees the daily maintenance of nearly 100 bank, credit union and insurance company investment portfolios. Through the use of TPG, these HFW clients may download their individual files to generate various reports for reconciling their own books at each month-end.

Prior to joining HFW in November 1997, Ms. Edwards was a Sales Assistant at Salomon Smith Barney in Southfield, Michigan. She is a member of the Ferndale Public School Board Special Committee and the Ferndale Public Schools Citizens Bond Oversight Committee. She is also the Treasuer of the Ferndale Public Schools Orchestra Boosters.

Richard H. Wendin
Investment Advisor Representative

Mr. Wendin began his professional career as a Trust Investment Officer with Detroit Bank and Trust Company in 1966 as a Portfolio Manager for a large number of personal and institutional accounts after serving in the United States Army. In 1971 he became Vice President of Donovan Associates, a Detroit based land investment firm, where he was responsible for investment capital procurement and investor relations. Mr. Wendin joined Heber Fuger Wendin in 1982 as an Investment Advisor and Portfolio Manager responsible for personal and institutional equity and balanced accounts. Mr. Wendin is also President of Sigurd R. Wendin & Associates, a firm specializing in the valuation of closely held companies.
